Tune Hotels invest RM907m for new hotels
JOHOR BAHARU: Tune Hotels will invest over RM907 million to set up a network of 30 hotels worldwide within the next 18 months.
Its chief executive officer, Mark Lankester, said the hotels would be built in Malaysia, London, Indonesia, Philipines, Thailand and Australia next year.
"This is part of our plan to have 100 hotels around the world by 2015," he said.
Lankester said this to reporters after the ceremony to welcome the hotel's two-millionth guest here today.
He said at the moment, it was ready to open for business its hotels in Kulim, Langkawi, Ipoh (Malaysia); Manila (Philipines); Hatyai (Thailand); Edinburgh, Scotland and London (UK).
He said Greater London alone would have 15 hotels in future.
"The first of the 15 hotels, Tune Hotel in Westminster, received good impression from European tourists, who liked the concept of budget hotel," he said.
Lankester said the hotel would work with its sister company (AirAsia) and Tourism Malaysia to bring more tourists to Malaysia.
Earlier, the hotel's two millionth guest was a businessman from Indonesia, Budi Hariyanto, who checked in at Tune Hotel Danga Bay with his wife Sandra Kartika Yuwono and daughter Stefani Hariyanto.
