Biotech champion moves into education
Kuala Lumpur: Malaysian Biotechnology Corp's (BiotechCorp) Datuk Iskandar Mizal Mahmood will end his tenure as chief executive officer tomorrow after holding the post for six years.
It is understood that Inno Bio Ventures Sdn Bhd CEO Datuk Dr Mohd Nazlee Kamal has been appointed to replace Iskandar.
Inno Bio Ventures is a Minister of Finance Inc company with close affiliation with the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.
Iskandar, 45, will be leaving to head a new education services company, which is set to open a local multi-disciplinary university.
The university is set to make its first intake in September under a joint venture with a well-known international education group.
Iskandar is credited with turning the Malaysian bio-technology industry into the RM13.5 billion sector it is now.
In five short years, the industry has managed to attract RM5.4 billion worth of investments and provided 54,776 job opportunities.
The National Biotechnology Policy has three phases of growth for the industry - capacity building, commercialisation and global presence. The policy is now in its commercialisation phase.
