By Gho Chee Yuan / theedgemarkets.com | May 27, 2016 : 4:37 PM MYTKUALA LUMPUR (May 27): Datasonic Group Bhd's net profit jumped 179% to RM18.94 million in the fourth quarter ended March 31, 2016 (4QFY16) from a year earlier, as the smart card specialist recorded higher revenue.
In a statement to Bursa Malaysia today, Datasonic said revenue was higher at RM74.05 million versus RM47.91 million.
"RM54.93 million of the group's revenue in the current financial quarter is derived from the supply of smart cards, datapages, consumables and personalisation solutions.
"The group's profit before taxation was higher, based on quarter on quarter comparison with that of the preceding financial period, due to greater revenue achieved," Datasonic said.
For the full year, net income was higher at RM63.05 million, compared with RM59.48 million a year earlier. Revenue rose to RM241.31 million, against RM233.34 million.
Datasonic declared a dividend of one sen a share for the quarter in review, bringing full-year dividends to three sen per share.
Going forward, Datasonic expects its growth to be satisfactory in FY17, barring any unforeseen circumstances.
At 4:08pm today, Datasonic shares gained two sen or 1.6% to RM1.31, for a market value of RM1.77 billion. The stock saw 1.7 million shares transacted.
