MAHB to decide on aerobridges: Kong
PUTRAJAYA -- It is up to Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) to decide whether to install aerobridges at the second Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA2), says Transport Minister Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha.
Kong said the ministry has always tell the airport operator that the building of any airport must be based on international best practices.
"An airport must be user-friendly, safe for passengers and must have good security to ensure safety and prevent attacks and terrorism and so on," he said, in response to public concern on
MAHB's decision not to have aerobridges at KLIA2.
He said an airport must be comfortable for users.
Kong said if the country has good international airport then the facilities must also conform to international standards.
He said KLIA2 would not only be used by AirAsia but also other low-cost airlines.
MAHB had on July 14 announced it would not build the aerobridges at the KLIA2 to acede to AirAsia''s request as its business model required a quick turnaround time in order to increase aircraft utilisation.
The terminal will be constructed without the aerobridges; instead ramps would be provided. -- BERNAMA
