DiGi upbeat in keeping growth momentum
DiGi.Com Bhd will continue to maintain its growth momentum with solid performance in data and voice segments driven by the increase in usage and a larger subscriber base of 9.3 million.
In a statement today, group chief executive officer, Henrik Clausen, said the company's focus in driving the "Internet for All" proposition has helped drive its strong data growth.
"Efforts to create appeal of social media through innovations like Opera Mini and Facebook Zero, our enhanced smartphone line-up, together with smart bundling efforts, have stimulated up-take," he said.
Currently, the local telecommunications provider has over 5.3 million mobile broadband and mobile Internet customers, he said.
Clausen said DiGi would prioritise network modernisation and collaboration and cost-focus initiatives as long-term building blocks needed to sustain growth and deliver strongly on its mobile Internet and mobile broadband proposition.
"We are making good progress in two key initiatives in this area -- infrastructure sharing initiative with Celcom and our network modernisation exercise.
"DiGi will soon begin physical network swapping and aim to have a long-term evolution-ready network by 2012, enabling our customers to quickly benefit from the services once the spectrum becomes available," he said.
For the quarter under review, DiGi's pre-tax profit fell to RM325.28 million from RM377.99 million in the previous corresponding quarter.
However, revenue rose to RM1.46 billion from RM1.33 billion previously, attributed to 113 per cent increase in mobile Internet and mobile broadband revenues. -- Bernama
