Port Klang conducts crisis management
With acts of terrorism and sudden disasters continuing to be reported around the world lately, the Port Klang Authority today carried out a one-day crisis management exercise involving the four terminal operators under its wings as well as other related authorities.
PKA Chairman Datuk Tah Kim Poo said the drill was to test, review and evaluate the port's management of security crisis as well as the ability of the terminals operators and PKA to handle any maritime crisis or disaster.
Port Klang is Malaysia's largest port and with more than 50 per cent of the country's cargos shipped in and out of the port, the exposure towards unwanted crisis is very bright, he said.
Apart from the four terminal operators, namely Westports Malaysia Sdn Bhd, Northport (Malaysia) Bhd, Port Klang Cruise Centre and Kapar Energy Venture Sdn Bhd, the Royal Malaysian Police, Fire and Rescue Services Department, the Marine Department and other related government agencies also took part in the exercise.
A follow-up meeting on the exercise will be held to discuss the effectiveness of the exercise and on further improvement, Tah said during a press briefing on the exercise, Petaling Jaya, today.
He said that besides enhanced policing and security at ports, he will be also recommending the exercise as an annual event, as part of security efforts for ports, terminals and the maritime industry at large.--Bernama
