TNB allocates RM6m for SL1M to help graduates
BANGI: Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) is allocating RM6mil for the Skim Latihan 1Malaysia (SL1M) programme to help graduates look for jobs to gain practical experience in the company.
Chairman Tan Sri Leo Moggie said the one-year duration to do practical training in TNB would draw some 378 graduates to enrol in the programme.
“The intake is done in three phases. The first batch of 64 trainees starts today while the second batch intake of 148 graduates will start in October,” he told reporters after the launch of TNB SL1M.
Moggie said the third intake of 149 students would start in January next year.
SL1M was launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak on June 1 to give opportunities to fresh graduates to undergo practical training in government-link companies (GLCs) and to reduce the unemployment rate among graduates.
Meanwhile, TNB chief executive officer Datuk Seri Che Khalib Mohamed Noh said TNB was hoping to see more participation from the non-bumiputeta graduates for the programme.
“What we can see from the first intake of the programme is that there is only one non-bumiputera from the 64 trainees participating in TNB SL1M. We hope to see more in the second and third intakes,” he said.
