Private sector's NCER investment exceeds RM9.3b
KUALA LUMPUR: The private sector's investments in the Northern Corridor Economic Region (NCER) have exceeded RM9.3 billion, said Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir.
These investments are in the core areas of agriculture, manufacturing, tourism and logistics.
"The government's contribution to the overall volume of private sector participation in the NCER, facilitated by the Northern Corridor Implementation Authority (NCIA) as at the end of last year, stood at just 8.99 per cent.
"Towards this end, the NCIA has made the NCER a successful case study and logged itself in as a must watch economic region," Mukhriz said at a press conference after witnessing the exchange of documents between NCIA and JEFI Aquatech Resources Sdn Bhd here yesterday.
JEFI is set to invest RM375 million in an integrated shrimp project in the NCIA, with a gross national income impact reaching RM9.5 billion by 2020.
JEFI group has a presence in over 30 countries. Its global exports stand at about US$100 million (RM295 million) annually, the company claimed.
Mukhriz is confident NCIA's achievement in creating a business-conducive climate will continue to enhance NCER's overall standing in the area of national competitiveness
