Oil & Gas players to nurture local talent
KUALA LUMPUR: Petronas has teamed up with four major oil and gas players to train Malaysians and make the country a regional education and learning hub for the industry by 2020.
Petronas yesterday signed separate memorandums of understanding (MOUs) with Baker Hughes, Kencana Petroleum Bhd, SapuraCrest Petroleum Bhd and Technip Geoproduction.
Petronas vice president of human resources Juniwati Rahmat Hussin said Petronas will work with the four firms to train and develop local talents to cater to both the domestic and regional industry needs.
"The MOU will provide both the industry and learning institutions with a much needed platform to identify, strategise and undertake programmes and activities to develop the industry's future skilled workforce requirements," she told reporters after the signing of the MOU here yesterday.
The scope of the collaboration will include joint research and development, staff attachment opportunities, information sharing session, chair sponsorship, adjunct lecturer programme, supervision of postgraduate students and technical trainees, and establishment of a learning facility.
"The programmes and activities will be conducted at Petronas' institutions, including Petronas Management Training Centre, Universiti Teknologi Petronas, Institut Teknologi Petroleum Petronas and Akademi Laut Malaysia," she said.
The collaboration will help replenish the needed skilled manpower, be it in Petronas or in the local oil and gas industry as a whole.
