BlueScope eyes MRT roofing deals
KLANG: BlueScope Steel (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, which is 40 per cent owned by Permodalan Nasional Bhd, is banking on jobs to supply roofing materials for stations to be built under the Klang Valley Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) project.
"We're well positioned to capture growing demand for premium steel roofing products, which comply with the Green Building Index standards," said president Somkiat Pintatham.
"We hope to supply our roofing products to contractors who are going to build MRT stations. We can also supply interior cladding for underground stations," he told reporters after a tour around the company's factory in Kapar, Klang, yesterday.
The factory has an annual capacity of 175,000 tonnes of metallic coating line and 70,000 tonnes for paint line.
The roofing products, which come with a 25-year material warranty, are sold under the brand names Zincalume, Truecore and Colorbond.
BlueScope Steel's business is highly dependent on the vibrancy of the construction and housing development sectors.
Among landmark buildings that are using BlueScope Steel's roofing are the low-cost carrier terminal in Sepang, Kuching International Airport, MK-11 condominiums and Setia Eco Park residentials in Setia Alam.
In Malaysia, the BlueScope Steel group is represented by BlueScope Steel Malaysia, BlueScope Lysaght Malaysia Sdn Bhd, BlueScope Lysaght (Sabah) Sdn Bhd and Bluescope Lysaght (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd.
Listed on the Australian stock exchange, BlueScope Steel Ltd is one of the world's largest manufacturers of pre-engineered steel buildings.
