RM2bil foreign investment in Terengganu
To build thiochemical platform in Kertih
PUTRAJAYA: CJ CheilJedang Corp of South Korea and Arkema SA of France has entered into a joint venture (JV) to invest in an RM2bil thiochemical platform in Kertih, Trengganu. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak who witnessed the announcement by the JV representatives of both companies said the project would generate significant spill-over effects and encourage new economic activities such as steam generation using renewable resources. He added that the project was expected to generate about RM20bil of cumulative sales by 2020 and provide employment opportunities to almost 500 knowledge workers. The project represents the world's first bio-methionine plant and Asia's first thiochemical platform. The project would commence operations by 2013 with the investment to come in over a 10-year period.
