The stock market is expected to trade higher this week, as analysts are confident that market fundamentals are intact, backed by positive corporate and economic news on the local front.

Over the near-term, analysts expect the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) to hit as high as 1,600 points. Affin Investment Bank, in a recent news report, pegged the 1,585-1,600 level as the benchmark index's target in the near-term.

Last week, the FBM KLCI closed 0.14 per cent, or 2.32 points lower at 1,569.89. During the week, it closed as low as 1,562.94 (Tuesday) and as high as 1,571.56 (Thursday).

"So far, the profit taking and the declines were healthy and within expectations," said an analyst.

Elsewhere, the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed 0.96 per cent or 112.6 points higher at 11,787.4 last week, even though the recently released US retail data gained less-than-expected.

Stock markets in Asia were mixed, with Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index rising 2.5 per cent to 24,283.2 points last week, representing its fourth consecutive week of gains, while stocks in Singapore and Japan closed lower last week.

Analysts said, the decline this week will be driven by development from the overseas. Among new data to be released this week include data on the US housing market, US jobless claims, inflation data on China, UK inflation and jobless claims, among others.

Stocks or sectors that will be in the spotlight may include SP Setia Bhd, which won the RM300 million job to build and operate Penang International Convention and Exhibition Centre and Tanco Holdings Bhd on expectations that the company may have secured a substantial reduction in its debt obligations.

（吉隆坡17日訊）步入2011年，馬幣兌美元匯率繼續走漲，並且突破3.05關口，創13年新高，經濟學家及分析員預測，馬幣兌美元匯率在海外資金持續蜂涌流入烘托下，會繼續節節挺升，今年可破3.00水平，這對馬股會有推波助瀾的作用，對大馬出口及經濟衝擊不大，主要因區域幣值亦挺升，緩衝出口競爭削弱的衝擊。
破3.00指日可待
美國自去年11月以來展開的次輪量化寬鬆政策，每個月估計釋放900億美元（2千745億令吉）的資金進入市場，促使美國資金四處竄動，主要以“熱錢”的方式蜂涌流入區域市場，經濟學家預計馬幣兌美元匯率或持續走漲，兌美元衝破3令吉的水平指日可待。
國行或藉匯率控管通壓
馬幣的急攀，使市場紛傳決策者或可以容忍馬幣的增值，以協助抗衡節節高漲的通膨。市場預測，去年12月的通膨會升高至2.2%水平；最新的通膨數據將在本月19日揭盅。
一些經濟學家認為，匯率一向不是國行抗通膨的工具，因馬幣目前是一攬子管理性浮動匯率的機制，如果以匯率管理市場，將限制馬幣的靈活度。
再者，他們也表示，利用利率抗通膨的效果有限，今年的政策利率最高可調漲50個基點，預料國行或訴諸調高法定儲備率的政策，以協助吸納過剩的游資及間接協助對抗對膨。
馬幣迄今再漲值1%
馬幣今日上揚至3.0540，下午5時挂3.0550。馬幣兌美元匯價在1月14日猛衝至3.0475，寫下1997年10月以來的新高。馬股今日再創新高，揚升4.60點至1574.49點作收。
馬股叩1700點可期
馬幣兌美元匯率的節節挺升，將對士氣高昂的馬股起著推波助瀾的作用，加上區域市場也托熱錢流入之福一起隨風起舞的帶動，預計馬股至今年杪緊叩1千650至1千700點是可期的。
聯昌投資銀行的貨幣策略師蘇拉斯古瑪說：“我們預料當局使用匯率及利率的工具力抗通膨。基於原產品價格的壓力，我們需要比市場走先一步。”
政府津貼的逐步降低，導致燃油及一些必須品的價格近月水漲船高，引發整體的通膨攀升。
豐隆銀行經濟學家鐘艷屏說：“馬幣兌美元匯價會繼續增值，衝破3令吉的水平指日可待，馬幣走漲與區域貨幣增值的走勢並駕齊驅，主要托海外熱錢蜂涌竄流至區域之福。”
她認為，馬幣的增值，對大馬的出口及經濟衝擊不大，因區域經濟體的貨幣亦增值，對削弱出口競爭力有緩衝作用。
馬幣增值有助吸資
她補充，馬幣增值，反而對進口有利，因為有助降低進口通膨，使進口貨品價格較低。此外，馬幣增值，對吸引外資有一定的作用，包括外國直接投資。
她說，在外圍不明朗化狀況下，出口表現或依然低迷，大馬經濟的前路，內需扮演舉足輕重的角色。
國行著重扶持經濟
下半年料升息50基點
國行利用利率抗通膨的空間有限，以現有的低沉經濟表現，預計今年上半年不會升息，下半年或升息最高達50個基點，分兩次調息，分別達25個基點。
國行下一次議息會議將在1月27日召開。
鐘艷屏認為，在訴諸利率降低通膨的效果有限之大前提下，國行或祭出調漲法定儲備率的政策，以協助管理游資，進而間接減低通膨的效果。
大馬現有的法定儲備率為1%，她預計此儲備率或可調升至2至2.5%。
每月2千745億熱錢流入區域
本地投資銀行一分析員透露，美國釋放的次輪量化寬鬆政策之游資，每個月達900億美元，直到6月為止，這些龐大資金將繼續竄流到世界各地，尤其是區域市場，使區域和馬幣幣值節節攀升。“我們預計馬幣兌美元匯率至年杪或緊叩2.95令吉的水平。”
熱錢轉向引動盪
他說，美國經濟有些起色，相信不會釋放第三輪的量化寬鬆政策，使外流海外的美國資金或在下半年撤返原籍國，進而引發馬股的動盪及馬幣的走弱。
他表示，儘管馬幣增值對馬股有利，但海外資金的轉向，或引爆市場的動盪，投資者務必提高警惕。
他說，馬幣增值對美國出口有利，加上美國海外的企業獲利，在匯回祖國時取獲巨額的匯率賺益，因此，美國是偏愛弱勢美元的。
他奉勸投資者在今年次季要提高警惕，除非美國經濟放晴，否則，馬股的升勢皆是“熱錢”作怪，資金可來可往，市場或起伏不定。
