Johor Port in joint bid for Saudi project
KUALA LUMPUR: Johor Port Bhd is partnering Saudi-based West Group Logistic Port Services to bid for the operation and management of King Saud International Seaport in Jeddah.
The partnership will explore areas in terminal operation, fire and safety, bulk operation and logistic services.
West Group is mainly involved in customs clearance, ransportation, container storage and shipment.
According to a source, the company is keen to expand port operations and is looking for a suitable partner in its bid.
“West Group is interested to work alongrels side Johor Port to tap its 35 years of experience and expertise, and offer its services to Jeddah Islamic Seaport,” the source told Business Times.

Johor Port earlier last month and currently both groups are working out a more thorough agreement.
Johor Port is considered a “matured” port and is already operating at full capacity.
If the partnership takes off, it will be the group’s maiden foray in the international field.
The King Saud International Seaport, also called Jeddah Islamic Seaport, is located on the Red Sea, in the middle of the shipping
route between the Mediterranean Sea and the Indian Ocean.
The port, currently managed by Dubai Port World, covers about 10.5 sq km, which makes it one of the world’s largest seaports.
It boasts 58 berths of international standard in service today.
The port can accommodate large container vessels with a capacity
of 6,500 TEUs.
Jeddah Islamic Seaport is the main import destination for Saudi Arabia, handling 59 per cent of its imports by sea and serving its main commercial centres.
