Axiata launches new roaming rate plan
KUALA LUMPUR: Axiata, via its subsidiaries, has launched ‘Axiata Roam’, an initiative which will see roaming call rates significantly slashed in some countries where the mobile phone operator has operations.
Under the Axiata Roam plan, its customers travelling abroad will only pay local rates for calls home when travelling within Axiata’s network of mobile operators in Malaysia, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Cambodia. The customers do not have to worry about roaming rates.
The offer follows the group’s other offers in roaming and retail IDD and is part of Axiata’s strategy towards becoming the leader in this space.
Axiata Roam, currently the lowest rate among operators in the region, is intended to cater to the increasing demand of travellers across the region.
Targeted at travellers and corporate customers, the initiative leverages on its regional footprint and group synergies.
“This promotion will be valid for four months until end-February next year,” said Axiata’s president and group chief executive Datuk Seri Jamaludin Ibrahim in a statement yesterday.

“This proposition is a significant part of our strategy to develop our position as a trusted and innovative brand that brings peace of mind to travellers.
“As a regional network Axiata is able to bring international connectivity offerings that are unique and of tremendous value to our customers.
“With this offer, Axiata hopes to cement its position as the leader in international roaming and IDD,” he said.
Axiata is one of the largest Asian telecommunication companies focused on high growth low penetration emerging markets.
Axiata has controlling interests in mobile operators in Malaysia, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Cambodia with significant strategic stakes in India, Singapore and Iran.
India and Indonesia are among the fastest growing markets in the world. In addition, the Malaysian-grown holding company has stakes in non-mobile telecommunication operations in Thailand.
