JOHOR BAHARU (Dec 11): Malaysia is categorised as having a high
economic growth, enabling it to provide high-paying jobs, said Prime
Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

"This is the result of the government leadership's plans which
contain supreme ideas. This is sound planning for the country. And this
is our success when we have a government with the ability to come up
with development plans based on outstanding ideas." he said.

Najib said this when launching the Iskandar Malaysia Public Housing Project at Lima Kedai in Gelah Patah, here, Sunday.

He said some 20,000 high-paying jobs had so far been provided in Iskandar Malaysia.

Najib said with Iskandar Malaysia's changing landscape that was
increasingly drastic, new job opportunities would increase to 50,000 by
2015 and 800,000 by 2025.

"This is the success of a government
chosen by all of you and we will uphold this trust to the best of our
ability and will work with full spirit and dedication," he told the
audience.

Najib said the success was also due to the same
government being chosen at the national and state (Johor) level,
enabling close cooperation between the federal and Johor governments,
thus enabling new changes and a major development transformation in
Iskandar Malaysia.

He also stressed that this regional development was people-friendly, inclusive and based on social justice.

On the housing project, Najib said it would be able to give the people a better quality of life.

"I believe that with a better quality of life, the residents here will
be able to chart a better future for themselves," he said.

The RM200 million project is targeted for those with families having a household monthly income of less than RM3,000.

It consists of three- and four-storey apartments with 1,500 units, with 10 per cent of them built specially for the disabled.

The housing complex which has broadband facility, solar panels and rain
water collection facility, among others, was built according to the
crime prevention through environmental design (CPTED) approach to ensure
the residents' safety.

The monthly rental for the units is between RM360 and RM560, with the lease contract to be renewed every two years. - Bernama
