Berjaya Corp posts higher profit, revenue

Berjaya Corporation Bhd's pre-tax profit for the first six months of its financial year ended Oct 31, 2011 rose to

RM557.967 million versus RM424.530 million for the corresponding period last financial year.



Revenue also grew to RM3.486 billion, from RM3.465 billion in the

corresponding period last financial year.


In a filing to Bursa Malaysia today, Berjaya Corp said the
improvement in both profit and revenue was achieved in spite of
deconsolidation of BSompo following the disposal of 40 per cent equity
interest in the company during the first quarter of this financial year.







"The improvement was mainly due to higher revenue recorded by the

distribution and gaming businesses of the group," the company said.



For its second quarter, Berjaya Corp posted a lower pre-tax profit of RM167.57 million compared to RM186.747 million previously.



Revenue for the three-month period also dwindled to RM1.698 billion,
versus RM1.720 billion in the corresponding quarter last year.



Berjaya Corp said it is of the view that the operational

performance for the remaining quarters may be challenging due to uncertainties of the global economy. -- BERNAMA
