Tan Chong expects Vietnam plant up by March
Edaran Tan Chong Motor Sdn Bhd (ETCM) expects its first car plant in Danang, Vietnam to be completed by March this year.
Its executive director, Datuk Dr Ang Bon Beng, said the plant would produce
up to 1,200 units of B-segment (small and compact) cars monthly.
"Some of the output will be exported to China," he told a media briefing
after the presentation of prizes to the winners of the 'Test Drive & Win' Nissan
campaign here today. He said ETCM expected only a single-digit growth in sales this year.
"The previous year was a challenging one. The company faces fierce
competition, uncertain economic conditions, the new ruling on hire purchase and the floods in Thailand and these affected sales. "The company recorded sales of only 33,000 units," he said.
On the fierce market competition, Ang said, the company always stressed on
producing products with values as the customer satisfaction was its top
priority.
"The products today are very similar and what's important is the customer
satisfaction," he said.
On the campaign, Ang said the company hoped that it would attract more
customers and boost the sales. "The contest has drawn tremensous response from the public. "I encourage everyone to participate to stand a chance to win either a Nissan Teanna or 370Z in the next draw," he said. -- Bernama
