Panel to shorlist firms for new power plants
The Energy Commission of Malaysia (EC) expects to shortlist several companies for the development of new combined-cycle power plants in the country by next month.
Its chief executive officer Datuk Ahmad Fauzi Hassan said the EC issued the request for quotation (RFQ) today to 47 interested companies including 10 foreign companies.
"We are going to shortlist them based on the criteria that we have discussed with the Minister (of Energy, Green Technology and Water Datuk Seri Peter Chin Fah Kui)," he told reporters at the Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB)'s Chinese New Year banquet here today.
Also present at the event were TNB chairman Tan Sri Leo Moggie and its president/chief executive officer Datuk Seri Che Khalib Mohamad Noh.
On January 27, the EC, in its website, unveiled a list of 47 prospective bidders, comprising both local and foreign firms, for the development of new combined-cycle power plants.
Among local parties bidding for the project are Tenaga Nasional Bhd, YTL Power International Bhd, Petroliam Nasional Bhd and Sime Darby Energy Sdn Bhd while foreign names include Mitsubishi Corp, Mitsui and Co, Daewoo International Corp and Korea Electric Power Corp and Siemens Project Ventures.-- BERNAMA
