Car sales up 1pc in February 2012
KUALA LUMPUR: Motor vehicle sales in February 2012
increased by 3,626 units or 1.09 per cent to 44,013 units from 40,387 units in the same month last year, according to the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA).
In an announcement today, MAA said the passenger car segment recorded sales of 38,867 units compared to 36,457 units last February, while commercial vehicle sales rose to 5,146 units from 3,930 units.
The return of buying interest among consumers, longer working month and strong performance by the commercial vehicles segment were cited as main factors for the jump in sales volume.
For the first two months of 2012, total sales of vehicle amounted to 84,961 units, down from 95,168 units recorded in the corresponding period in 2011.
On the outlook for March, MAA said the market condition was expected to improve from last month.
It added that the market was also expected to adjust to the stricter requirements of hire purchase loan application process.
MAA said vehicle production in February this year rose to 43,958 units from 40,941 units in the same month last year.
