KLCI sees modest gains at midday
KUALA LUMPUR: The FBM-KLCI managed to keep its upward momentum from the morning, making it one of only two gainers among the regional bourses. At the midday break, it climbed 3.05 points, or 0.19%, to 1,585.58.
Volume stood at 1.75 billion shares with turnover of RM665.79mil. In the broader market however, losers beat gainers 334 to 312, while 326 counters were unchanged.
The top gainers included Kuala Lumpur Kepong which rose 48 sen to RM23.9, British American Tobacco 38 sen to RM53.58, and Cybertowers 21 sen to 56 sen.
The losers were Far East which slipped 13 sen to RM7.27, Nestle 12 sen to RM55.88, and High-Tech nine sen to 84 sen.
Among the actives were 1 Utopia, Metronic, Ariantec Global, Ingenuity Solutions, DBE Gurney, Tiger Synergy, and R&A Telecommunication.
Most regional benchmark indices were still in the red, although some pared their losses from the morning.
Japan's Nikkei 225 lost 4.86 points to 10,081.63, Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index 4.73 points to 20,851.9, Shanghai's Composite Index 10.01 points to 2,368.19, Seoul's Kospi Index 5.78 points to 2,021.45, and Singapore's Straits Times Index 9.38 points to 2,996.25.
Besides the FBM-KLCI, only Australia's S&P ASX was up 19.15 points to 4,273.4.
Nymex crude oil stood at US$106.68 per barrel, while the ringgit was quoted at RM3.0738 to the US dollar. Spot gold was down at US$1,649.3 per ounce.
