OSK ups Malaysian tech sector to overweight
OSK Research upgraded Malaysia's technology sector to overweight on improving demand outlook for hard disk drive (HDD)components, semiconductor packaging and testing companies.
"For HDD, we see rising demand and higher average selling prices driving growth, while the semiconductor players may see demand recover in the second half of the year," the broker said in a research note on Thursday.
In line with the sector upgrade, OSK Research raised semiconductor players Malaysian Pacific Industries Bhd and Unisem (M) Bhd to trading buy, with higher fair values of RM3.70 per share and RM1.67 respectively.
By 11.41am (0341 GMT), MPI's shares dropped 0.65 per cent while Unisem rose 1.41 per cent. That compares to the Malaysian benchmark stock index that dropped 0.4 per cent. -- Reuters
