KL shares extend losses at midday
Share prices on Bursa Malaysia extended losses at midday today in tandem with bearish sentiments on regional markets, dealers said.
At the end of the morning session, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) slipped 6.7 points to 1,585.15.
HLIB Research said the local bourse was likely to face further consolidation amid the moderating technical readings and dwindling volume in the absence of domestic catalysts.
The Finance Index lost 34 points to 14,195.05, the Industrial Index eased 18.04 points to 2,844.86 and the Plantation Index fell 21.73 points to 8,776.30. The FBM Emas Index shed 42.95 points to 10,876.27, the FBM 70 Index declined 33.58 points to 11,962.16 and the FBM ACE Index dipped 32.20 points to 4,586.51.
Losers led gainers 457 to 180 while 609 counters were unchanged, 609 untraded and 20 suspended. Turnover stood at 851.34 million shares worth RM575.77 million.
Among active counters, Ariantec Global rose 1.5 sen to 23.5 sen, Metronic Global added half-a-sen to 20 sen and Astral Supreme gained two sen to 30 sen.
Heavyweights, Maybank added one sen to RM8.86, Sime Darby and CIMB lost three sen each to RM9.76 and RM7.52, respectively. -- BERNAMA
