Re: 20th MAY 2011
KL bourse up on fresh buying interest
Share prices on Bursa Malaysia ended higher yesterday
on renewed buying interest by local and foreign institutionals in
selected key heavyweights and second liners, dealers said.
The benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (FBM
KLCI) finished 2.75 points up or 0.18 per cent better at 1,544.02, after
opening 2.11 points higher at 1,543.38. The index saw an intraday high
of 1,550.62.
The local market pared gains soon after a firm start
following Wall Street's positive performance, which saw the key equity
indices rising between 0.6 per cent and 1.1 per cent. It later retreated
on profit-taking amid news reports saying that Japan's economy shrank
0.9 per cent in the January-March quarter, marking the second
consecutive quarter of contraction.
"The overall sentiment was bullish as investors were upbeat on the country's growth prospects," one dealer said.
OSK
Research said the consolidation phase had been healthy thus far. It
said the market would resume its uptrend starting from the critical
1,474 level, once the index could push beyond the 1,544 level.
If not, the current sideways trend would be extended and the index could
retrace back to the 1,517 level, the research house said.
Trading
on Bursa yesterday was thin with turnover declining to 890.85 million
shares worth RM1.48 billion from 993.7 million shares valued at RM1.912
billion recorded on Wednesday.
Advancers and decliners were equal at 371 counters, while 318 counters were flat and 382 others untraded.
The
Finance Index rose 28.38 points to 14,386.02, the Industrial Index
declined 7.98 points to 2,741.04 and the Plantation Index added 63.57
points to 7,709.04.
The FBM Emas Index increased 19.65 points to
10,638.2, the FBM Mid 70 Index went up 27.2 points to 11,515.86 and the
FBM ACE Index fell 1.81 points to 4,327.94.
Volume leader
Ingenuity Solutions declined 1.5 sen to 19.5 sen, while PJI Holdings-Wa
and PJI Holdings fell 1/2 sen each to 16 sen and 19 sen respectively,
while Asia Media rose 3 sen to 27.5 sen and Ideal Jacobs decreased 7 sen
to 36 sen.
Among heavyweights, Maybank, CIMB and Sime Darby
were flat at RM8.88, RM8.28 and RM9.11 respectively while Petronas
Chemicals was down 1 sen to RM6.99 and Axiata added 1 sen to RM4.98.
Volume
on the Main Market decreased to 655.85 million shares worth RM1.43
billion from 717.15 million shares valued at RM1.84 billion on
