KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 10): The FBM KLCI drifted lower early on Thursday amidst choppy trade while regional markets were mixed following the slightly higher overnight close at Wall Street.
At 19.15am, the FBM KLCI dipped 0.15 points to 1,768.97, weighed by losses including at Genting and Sime Darby.
Gainers led losers by 137 to 57, while 146 counter traded unchanged. Volume was 110.14 million shares valued at RM52 million.
The top losers included Khind, Carlsberg, AFG, Petronas Dagangan, MISC, Genting and Sime Darby.
Hwang DBS Vickers Research in a market preview Thursday said the key FBM KLCI – which ended at its intra-day low of 1,769 yesterday – could extend its sideways drift with a marginal downward bias today.
Nonetheless, the benchmark index is expected to remain above its immediate support level of 1,750 for the time being, it said.
Asian shares were also expected to get some relief, while U.S. Standard & Poor's 500 E-mini futures added 0.3 percent, indicating a firmer open on Wall Street on Thursday after the S&P 500 index edged up 0.1 percent overnight, it said.

At 19.15am, the FBM KLCI dipped 0.15 points to 1,768.97, weighed by losses including at Genting and Sime Darby.

“On the corporate front, given the prevailing trading interest in small-mid caps, there may be action today in KPS following its disposal of a 17% stake in Taliswork to various investors for RM66 million cash (or 90 sen per Taliswork share), which would result in a loss on divestment of RM44 million. Separately, Pestech shares could attract interest too after its management reportedly said the Group expects its order book to rise from RM250 million end of this year to approximately RM500 million in the next two to three years,” it said.
