Re: 27 February 2012
Market Thoughts
European shares closed slightly up on Friday as results from companies such as Telecom Italia reassured investors, and strategists said stocks might extend the rally after hitting seven-month highs this week. Meanwhile, US stocks ended narrowly mixed in another lackluster session Friday as investors hesitated to remain long ahead of the weekend, but the major indexes still posted gains for the week with the S&P logging its best finish since June 2008.
On the local market, the FBM KLCI has been moving sideways below 1560 points. We expect the uncertain and flattish mood to continue this week as corporate earnings announcement take place in the last three days of the month. The index is expected to remain between its support and resistance of 1530 and 1600 points respectively.

Malaysia News & Highlights
RM1.42b payout for TM shareholders
Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) proposed a capital repayment of 30 sen a share and dividend of 9.8 sen per share, making a total cash distribution of RM1.42 billion, or 39.8 sen per share, to its shareholders. The proposed capital repayment is in line with its objectives of capital management framework which includes returning cash in excess of its requirement to shareholders. (Source: Business Times)
Three steps to Felda Global listing
Three steps will be carried out to ensure the listing of Felda Global Ventures Holdings on Bursa Malaysia scheduled in May or June this year will proceed as planned. Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Ahmad Maslan said the first step is to persuade eight members of Koperasi Permodalan Felda (KPF), who last week obtained a temporary order at Kuantan High Court to prevent the cooperative from making any decision at its extraordinary general meeting on February 22, to withdraw their action. (Source: Business Times)
AK’s power assets draw 12 bidders
The power assets that billionaire T. Ananda Krishnan plans to sell have attracted 12 preliminary international and local bidders, with the final round of bidding expected by end of next month, sources said. The local bidders included IMalaysia Development Bhd (IMDB), and CIMB/Employees Provident Fund had submitted a joint bid, but the highest was from Saudi Water & Electricity Co at RM10.85bil, sources told StarBizWeek. (Source: The Star)
Berjaya founder to list 7-Eleven and MOL Global
Billionaire Tan Sri Vincent Tan plans to list the chain of 7-Eleven convenience stores, under a company called 7-Eleven Malaysia Bhd, and also MOL Global Bhd which has shares in Internet giant Facebook, within the next two years. (Source: The Star)
Oriental privatisation target?
Oriental Holdings Bhd, which had seen its share price jump by as much as 16.5% in the past week, could be the next privatisation target. Sources said this followed several announcements of corporate moves which would probably be a prelude for greater things to come. “This will always catch the market by surprise. The buying of the Kingsley Hotel for about RM202mil is definitely a pointer to bigger things to come for Oriental,” a source said. (Source: The Star)
K-Euro to divest Trinity, Canal City
Kumpulan Europlus is looking at divesting its interests in Trinity Corp Bhd and the Canal City development to meet its portion of equity funding for the RM7.07b West Coast Expressway project, say sources. (The Edge)
Plus eyes highways of Silk and Litrak
Plus Expressway Bhd may be interested in taking over several highways concessions from the private sector. It is believed that the highway operator has already put out feelers to Silk and Litrak. (The Edge)
MBM seeks assembly partner
Automotive group MBM Resources Bhd is shorting up cash to expand into the auto assembly business, for which it already has a licence. Looi Kok Loon, MBM group managing director, told The Edge Financial Daily, “We have already acquired a licence and are in negotiations with several brands which are interested in partnering with us to assemble cars in Malaysia,” (Source: The Edge)
