Market Thoughts
European shares reversed losses and closed positive in choppy trading after U.S. consumer confidence readings came in better than expected. Meanwhile, US stocks logged a gain despite mixed economic reports, with the Dow finishing above 13,000 for the first time since May 2008 and the S&P closing at its best level in almost four years.
Despite the Dow and S&P 500 hitting their highest levels since 2008, the markets are not in the clear yet. The European Central Bank plans to announce today how much banks have taken out in low-cost loans, which is likely to set the tone for markets. There also is a handful of economic reports and comments from the US Federal Reserve.
On the local market, the FBM KLCI lost 2.31 points to 1556.73 points yesterday. We expect the index to remain sideways around 1560 points with a positive bias after the US markets hit their highest levels since 2008.
