SC’s new measures
As part of new initiatives for the capital market, the Securities Commission (SC) will introduce a mercantile exchange to facilitate investments in gold futures and other precious metals, as well as a trading venue for unlisted firms to raise funds. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said the SC would work towards developing these new segments and present the Government with detailed recommendations for implementation. (Source: The Star)
Bursa Malaysia pre-tax profit up in H1
Bursa Malaysia Bhd's pre-tax profit for the first six months ended June 30 2012 rose to RM111.6 million from RM107.6 million in the same period last year. Its revenue, however, declined to RM216.5 million from RM217.2 million previously, it said in a statement. Bursa Malaysia said the securities market's trading revenue was down 10 per cent to RM92.9 million from RM103.8 million in the first six months of 2011 while average daily trading value was RM1.74 billion compared with RM1.93 billion previously. Carmaker will invest RM160mil to upgrade Rawang plant
Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua Sdn Bhd (Perodua) will invest RM160mil to upgrade its plant in Rawang, Selangor. Managing director Datuk Aminar Rashid Salleh said the funds would be internally generated. “We won't need an IPO (initial public offering). We're in a healthy cash position,” he said at a briefing. Malaysia's new car sales up 2pc in first half
Malaysia's new car sales reached 303,100 units in the first half of this year, up almost two per cent from 297,200 units sold in the same period last year. Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua Sdn Bhd (Perodua) managing director Datuk Aminar Rashid Salleh estimates the total industry volume to hit between 612,000 units to 615,000 units this year. The Malaysian Automotive Association had forecast car sales of 615,000 units this year over the 599,877 units recorded last year. (Source: Business Times)
MBSB selling Gadini to Ken for RM56m
Malaysia Building Society Bhd (MBSB) is selling 100 per cent stake in its property development unit, Gadini Sdn Bhd, to Ken Holdings Bhd for RM56.17 million. MBSB said the proposed disposal was in line with its objective to sell non-income generating assets, foreclosed properties and properties previously acquired. (Source: Business Times)
MISC sees profit after exiting liner business
MISC Bhd is confident of returning to the black in the second quarter ended June 30 after making a total provision of RM1.67bil from exiting its liner business. This provision was the main factor dragging down the shipping giant one of the world's leading owner-operator of liquefied natural gas (LNG) vessels into the red in the previous two quarters. President and chief executive officer Datuk Nasarudin Md Idris said he hoped to put the liner chapter behind and that it (the company) would unlikely be providing further provisions. Tanjung unit gets RM40m purchase order
Tanjung Offshore Bhd’s subsidiary, Gas Generators (M) Sdn Bhd, has received a purchase order worth RM40 million from Farab International LLC of Dubai. The order involves the engineering, construction, commissioning and delivery of gas generator packages, which is expected to be completed in August next year, Tanjung said in a statement.
