Asian markets end mixed
KUALA LUMPUR: Regional markets ended mixed on, Friday, July 20,
2012, as investors maintained cautious amid the uncertainty about the
US economic outlook following less then stellar economic data.
At 5pm, the FBM KLCI was down 1.60 points or 0.19% to 1,643.
Turnover
on the local stock exchange was 1.2 billion million shares valued at
RM1.7bil. There were 376 gainers, 410 losers and 352 stocks unchanged.
Reuters
reported on Thursday that factory activity in the US Mid-Atlantic
region contracted in July for a third straight month as new claims for
jobless aid surged the week before. As for regional bourses, Tokyo's
Nikkei 225 fell 1.43% to 8,669.87 while Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index
gained 0.42% to 19,640.80.
Shanghai's A index was down 0.74% to 2,168.64 while Taiwan's Taiex Index rose 0.23% to 7,164.68.
Seoul's Kospi Index was flat at 1,822.93, while Singapore's Straits Times Index slipped 0.44% to 3,015.53.
Nymex
crude oil lost US$1.02 to US$91.64 per barrel. Spot gold gained 93
cents to US$1,580.50 per ounce. The ringgit was quoted at 3.15 to the
US dollar.
At Bursa Malaysia, British American Tobacco gained RM1.20 to RM57.92 while TNB was up 8 sen to RM6.83 and TM gained 3 sen to RM6.24.
DRB-HICOM
gained 10 sen to RM2.73 on news that its associate Honda Malaysia will
be producing its Honda Jazz hybrid at its plant in Malacca, for the
Asian Oceania market segment.
Jayatiasa was the top loser, shedding 39 sen to RM8.54, while Petronas Dagangan slipped 26 sen to RM21.18.
