MK Land to build affordable houses even in downturn (8893)
IPOH: Property developer MK Land Holdings Bhd (MK Land) says there will always be a demand for affordable houses and will continue to build them even during an economic downturn.
Chairman Tan Sri Mustapha Kamal Abu Bakar said the company has a 2,800 ha. landbank on which 114,000 houses can be built and will focus on Selangor, Perak and Kedah.
He
told reporters after presenting the keys to 169 one-storey terrace
houses at Meru Perdana phase 2 here today that MK Land has completed
44,479 houses valued at RM5.6bil, including some 30,000 affordable
units.
Even though the focus is on affordable housing, the
company uses the Industrialised Building System (IBS) for good
structural integrity, sound proofing, termite resistance and quicker
completion than the conventional system, he said.
A total of 269
terrace houses are being built using IBS at Meru Perdana, he said,
adding MK Land will build 2,300 houses valued at RM500 million in the
next two years.
"In Ipoh, the company has completed 7,567 units
valued at RM900 million. We don't just focus on towns, we also give
attention to rural areas, as it is our responsibility to help the
government's affordable housing programme," he added.
MK Land
has also started building two-storey shops on 40 ha. in phase 1 of Meru
Perdana, he said, adding the area will develop rapidly when a road
linking it and its Klebang Putera project in Klebang is completed,
giving convenient access to Ipoh and bypassing Chemor and Chepor. -
