KL shares close lower
Shares of the following companies had unusual moves in Malaysia
trading. Stock symbols are in parentheses and prices are as of the
close in Kuala Lumpur.
The
FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI Index fell 0.1 per cent to 1,643.00, a second
day of declines. The gauge advanced 1 per cent this week, a third
weekly gain.
British American Tobacco (Malaysia) Bhd added 2.1
per cent to RM57.92, a record close. The cigarette maker’s
second-quarter net income grew 20 per cent from a year earlier to
RM220.8 million, it said in a stock-exchange filing.
DRB-Hicom
Bhd, an automotive, construction and property group, advanced 3.8 per
cent to RM2.73, its highest close since March 9. Volkswagen AG is
interested in buying a stake in DRB-Hicom’s Proton Holdings Bhd unit
and might consider fully acquiring the carmaker in the long term,
Manager Magazin reported, citing unidentified company sources.
Volkswagen spokesman Eric Felber declined to comment on the German
magazine’s report. DRB-Hicom Managing Director Mohd Khamil Jamil
couldn’t be reached for comment when phoned at his office today.
Ho Hup Construction Co gained 3.7 per cent to 69.5 sen, its steepest
increase since July 2. The property and construction group won an RM87
million contract from Johor Corp to build an army complex, Ho Hup said
in a filing.
Tenaga
Nasional Bhd, the country’s biggest power producer, climbed 1.2 per
cent to RM6.83, its highest close since June 8, 2011. The utility
reported third-quarter net income of RM619.1 million, compared with a
restated net loss of RM179.2 million a year earlier, after booking
state compensation for disruptions in gas supply, Tenaga said in a
