Ringgit closes lower against US dollar

The ringgit eased against the US dollar in late trading today, as buyers turned to safe-haven currencies on concern over Spain's debt crisis, dealers said.
At 5 pm, the local unit was traded at 3.1700/1730 against the US dollar compared with 3.1450/1520 on Friday.
"Risk appetite among investors was down due to the current situation in Spain," a dealer said.
The local currency declined against the Singapore dollar to 2.5173/5207 from 2.5104/5138 last Friday and depreciated against the yen to 4.0610/0653 from 4.0064/0112 previously.
The ringgit, however, appreciated against the British pound to 4.9271/9324 from 4.9414/9471 on Friday and strengthened against the euro to 3.8376/8416 from 3.8607/8650 previous. Bernama
