Share prices on Bursa Malaysia opened the week on a positive note in
early trading Wednesday after closing for the Hari Raya holidays, with
buying interest seen in selected heavyweights, dealers said.

At 9.20 am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI)
gained 1.55 points to 1,651.34 after opening 2.43 points higher at
1,652.22.

The Finance Index rose 19.05 points to 14,823.87, but the
Plantation Index eased 13.42 points to 8,628.07 and the Industrial
Index gained 10.83 points to 2,888.15.

The FBM Emas Index advanced 16.051 points to 11,298.36, the FBM Mid
70 Index was 43.61 points higher at 12,446.49 and the FBM ACE Index
surged 10.82 points to 4,551.82.

HwangDBS Vickers Research said while Bursa Malaysia was
closed on Monday and Tuesday for the Hari Raya holidays, regional
bourses finished broadly flat and slightly up, paced by India (+1.1 per
cent so far this week) and Thailand (+0.7 per cent).

Over on Wall Street, major United States' equity indices were down
between 0.3 per cent and 0.5 per cent since Friday, it said in a
research note.

"This could pave the way for key FBM KLCI to inch up a bit more
today. On the chart, the benchmark index may cut above and pull away
marginally from the immediate 1,650 resistance line ahead," the
research house said.

With some investors probably still on extended holiday, trading activity would likely be light today, it added.

Gainers led losers 169 to 86 while 145 counters were unchanged. A
total of 111.866 million shares worth RM100.691 million were
transacted.

Among active counters were Ingenuity Solutions-Wa which edged up
1.5 sen to 19 sen, CME Group was flat at seven sen and Ingenuity
Solutions inched up 0.5 sen to 34 sen.

Heavyweights, Maybank gained 15 sen to RM9.20, Sime darby earned
one sen to RM9.81, CIMB eased eight sen to RM7.78 and Petronas
Chemicals shed one sen to RM6.53. -- Bernama
