Share prices on Bursa Malaysia opened on a positive note today, buoyed by strong US corporate earnings and comments from the Federal Reserve that it would continue measures to support the economic recovery, dealers said.

At 9.21am, the FBM KLCI stood at 1,581.95, up 2.6 points. It had opened 0.98 of a point higher at 1,580.33.

HwangDBS Vickers Research said a relief rebound could be in store for Asian equities today following an overnight rise on Wall Street, which saw its key indices climbed at the closing bell.

It said the positive vibes on the external front due to optimistic development in the US could give a push to the local bourse with the benchmark FBM KLCI possibly pulling away from the immediate support line of 1,580 ahead.

On Bursa Malaysia, the Finance Index advanced 14.25 points to 14,142.58, the Plantation Index added 3.95 points to 8,723.29 and the Industrial Index was up 7.83 points to 2,850.85.

The FBM Emas Index climbed 15.88 points to 10,851.01, the FBM Mid 70 Index climbed 6.61 points to 11,925.0 and the FBM ACE Index edged up 15.98 points to 4,573.92.

Volume stood at 131.557 million worth RM67.284 million.

Among the active counters, Berjaya Corp-Warrants added 21 sen to 21.5 sen while 1 Utopia and Sinotop each inched up half a sen to 10 sen.
