PETALING JAYA: Asian Broadcasting Network (M) Sdn Bhd (ABN),
operator of Malaysia’s first digital cable TV network called ABNxcess,
has started offering high speed broadband (HSBB) services in the
country.
ABN’s HSBB services include both high speed Internet as well as video
services via ABNxcess. The coverage however, is currently limited to
Johor and the Klang Valley.
ABN’s HSBB services may rival TELEKOM MALAYSIA BHD []’s own
HSBB services, introduced in March 2010.
In a statement issued yesterday, ABN said it will be offering HSBB
services in packages of 10 Mbps, 30 Mbps and 50 Mbps. These
packages are priced at RM129, RM219 and RM369 per month
respectively.
“This positions ABNxcess as not only the country’s leading provider of
one of the fastest HSBB services, but the most affordable. With this
announcement, ABN is delivering on its promise of Access for All,” said
ABN president and CEO Sreedhar Subramaniam.
The HSBB package can be bundled with ABNxcess Pay TV service at
an additional cost of RM29.99 for 50 channels, plus free-to-air TV and
radio as well as five game applications. Those subscribing to the 10
Mbps package and pay TV service will have to fork out RM158.99 a
month.
In comparison, TM’s UniFi charges RM199 for a 10Mbps package and RM50 for 47 channels under its HyppTV channel for a
total of RM249 a month. It also has a RM30 package for 30 channels, as well as individual channel subscription of between
RM3 and RM9 each.
TM UniFi seems to have an advantage over ABN as its services are also bundled with free calls as well as premium content
from Astro Malaysia and its own HyppTV.
ABN said it has opened registrations for its pay TV and HSBB services in several parts of the Klang Valley such as Kepong,
Ampang, Puchong, and Desa Pandan; as well as several areas in Johor Baru including Stulang Laut, Taman Pelangi, Taman
Sentosa, Taman Maju, Permas Jaya and Johor Jaya
