Proton to offer a variant of its cars at lower price this saturday

JAKARTA (June 13):Proton will offer a variant of its cars at a lower price this Saturday, which will be affordable to all Malaysians, said executive chairman, Tan Sri Mohd Khamil Jamil.

He said the buyers would be able to save over 10 per cent in the price for the variant which would be on sale at Proton's showroom in Mutiara Damansara.

"Proton will offer the car at a lower price, not cheaper, and will not compromise on quality. In fact, safety features will be further upgraded," he said.

Mohd Khamil said this at the launch of Proton Preve here today.

Malaysian Ambassador to Indonesia, Datuk Syed Munshe Afdzaruddin Syed Hassan, officiated the launch.

Mohd Khamil, however, declined to reveal the car.

He said the move to lower the price was in line with the government's plan to reduce the car prices in stages.

On the sales of Proton Preve in Indonesia, Mohd Khamil said the company was confident of selling over 200 units of Preve a year to young executives who aimed to changed their cars to suit their new lifestyles.

This confidence was based on the marketing strategy which included a three-year 'buy-back' guarantee, he said.

The Preve are sold in Australia, Thailand and Brunei.

Mohd Khamil said Proton Preve would be sold at 285 million rupiah (RM89,000) a unit in Indonesia.

The price was 16 per cent lower than the cars of the same class and in terms of quality and the TECHNOLOGY [], Proton Preve was better or on par with them, he said. -- BERNAMA
