KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 20): The FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) futures contracts on Bursa Malaysia Derivatives closed sharply lower today, on the back on weaker cash market.

At the close, spot month August 2013 lost 34 points to 1,740, September 2013 fell 34.5 points to 1,735.5, December 2013 dipped 35 points to 1,739 and March 2014 declined 37.5 points to 1,738.

Turnover jumped to 21,640 lots from 13,458 lots yesterday, while open interest rose to 56,660 contracts from 50,057 contracts previously.

The underlying FBM KLCI closed 32.94 points lower to settle at 1,745.42.
