KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 11): The ringgit closed lower against the US dollar today, on continued profit taking sentiment and in line with other Asian currencies, dealers said.
At close, the local currency rose against the greenback to 3.1998/1018 from 3.1785/1805 on Friday.
A dealer said the greenback had benefited from the upbeat US jobs data released recently, which indicated that the recovery of the world's largest economy, may be on a firmer footing than expected.
Meanwhile, the euro dipped, after the European Central Bank surprised the  market by cutting its main interest rate to a record low of 0.25 per cent.
The ringgit traded mostly lower against other major currencies today. The local note depreciated against the Singapore dollar to 2.5617/5653 from 2.5563/5595, but improved against the yen to 3.2298/2332 from 3.2364/2388 on Friday.
Against the British pound, the ringgit declined to 5.1245/1293 from  5.1136/1177 and slid to 4.2817/2853 from 4.2643/2676 against the euro.
