KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 18): Malaysia’s November inflation, as measured by the consumer price index (CPI), rose 2.9% from a year earlier, according to the Statistics Department.
In a statement today, the department said the CPI’s rise came mainly on costlier food and non-alcoholic beverages, besides transport.
Meanwhile, more expensive housing, water, electricity, and fuel had also contributed to the CPI's rise
On a cumulative basis, the CPI from January to November increased 2% from a year earlier. Compared to the preceding month, the CPI rose 0.3%
In October, the CPI had risen 2.8% from a year earlier.
The November CPI numbers matched the median estimates of a 2.9% year-on-year rise from a Reuters poll.
