Malaysian Automobile Association president Datuk Aishah Ahmad said during a press conference that the total industry volume (TIV) achieved in 2013 marks the fourth consecutive year when the local automotive industry's sales have surpassed the 600,000 level.
Aishah said the all-time high TIV was due to "introduction of several new models with latest additional specifications, design styles at very competitive prices, a steady pace of economic growth and positive consumer sentiment due to the stable employment market".
Aishah said registration of new passenger vehicles rose 4.4% to 576,657 units from 552,189 units.
Meanwhile, registration of commercial vehicles increased 4.7% to 79,136 units.
