MMC-Gamuda: MRT cost rises 10% for every year of delay

KUALA LUMPUR: The cost for the Klang Valley Mass Rapid Transit (KVMRT) project will increase by 10% for every year that it is being delayed, said MMC-Gamuda JV director Datuk Ng Kee Leen.
"As such, I believe that the government will want to roll out the project as soon as possible (to mitigate against further cost increase)," Ng said on Tuesday, July 5.
MMC-Gamuda JV is the appointed project delivery partner for the KVMRT project.
He declined to comment on the outcome or value of the tunnelling works tender.
Ng also said the MMC-Gamuda JV had set up a CONSTRUCTION [] training centre (CTC) to train graduates to undertake construction works specifically for the KVMRT projects.
"MMC-Gamuda JV will invest a total of RM10 million in the CTC. We have seen 23 graduates from CTC today and we expect more," says Ng at the CTC graduation ceremony.
The KVMRT is expected to create 130,000 jobs over the course of completion until 2016.
