KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 14): Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) and Exxon Mobil Corp's Damar offshore natural gas field in Malaysia has started production.
Damar located off Peninsular Malaysia's east coast, involves 16 planned development wells. The gas field is expected to produce up to 200 million cubic feet of gas a day, said J. Hunter Farris who is chairman and president of ExxonMobil Exploration and Production Malaysia Inc (EMEPMI).
"The Damar platform represents the latest generation of natural gas satellite platforms under ExxonMobil’s ‘Design One, Build Multiple’ concept, which capitalises on efficiencies and lessons learned from previous development projects.
“Beyond providing an economical approach to developing smaller fields, our concept shortens construction time substantially and results in significant cost savings,” Farris said.
Damar is being developed under a gas production sharing contract (PSC) between between EMEPMI and Petronas group. EMEPMI and Petronas' upstream arm Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd each has a 50% stake in the PSC.
