KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 21): Twenty small and medium enterprises (SMEs) have shown interest and are ready to be listed on Bursa Malaysia in two years, says SME Corp Malaysia chief executive officer Datuk Hafsah Hashim.
Among the sectors identified are manufacturing, education and services, she said.
"SME Corp identified the SMEs, with at least four-star rating, under the SMEs' Competitive Status Assessment, for upgrading.
"These SMEs have shown interest to embark on a new direction in their business and are prepared to be listed on Bursa Malaysia between 12 and 24 months," she told a media conference after launching ABX Express SME Talk Series 2014 today.
Hafsah said SME Corp, Bursa Malaysia and Malaysian Industrial Development Finance Bhd would guide the SMEs in their preparatory work for listing.
Hafsah also said the incentives for mergers and acquisitions for SMEs launched recently would provide the impetus for SMEs to continue expanding and be listed on the bourse.
The nine-sector incentive covers taxation, accountancy, healthcare, dentistry, architecture and engineering.
To date, over 600,000 SMEs have registered with SME Corp, and of the total, 60 have been listed on Bursa Malaysia, 48 on the Main Market and 12 on the ACEMarket. — Bernama
