KUALA LUMPUR (April 15): Cypark Resources Bhd and Fairview International School have entered into an agreement to collaborate and establish the latter's new RM80 million International Baccalaureate (IB) World School in Johor Baharu.
This project will be developed in phases over three years, whereby the first two phases will be undertaken by Cypark, at a cost of RM18 million. Together with land and other related costs, the two phases will collectively cost at least RM40 million.
Fairview International School Chairman of Board of Directors, Prof. Emeritus Datuk Dr. Mohd Sham Mohd Sani, said the new campus was expected to attract more Singaporeans, expatriates and locals.
"This new campus signifies the beginning of the establishment of an up-to-date campus, a centre of excellence for IB education in the southern
corridor," he told Bernama, at the briefing session on Fairview Johor Baharu campus project, here today.
The new campus has a total capacity to house 1,250 students.
The first phase, comprising the construction of Block A, will start to receive its pioneer batch of students from August this year, together with the current 300 students from its temporary campus in Bandar Dato' Onn.
To date, Fairview is the only IB School in Malaysia, that offers programmes from the Primary Years Programme (PYP), Middle Years Programme (MYP) and Diploma of IB.
Meanwhile, Fairview International School Chairman of the Council of Governors, Daniel Chian, said the new Fairview Johor Baharu campus would continue to be the driving force of IB education, with fully-fledged facilities.
"We believe that quality education must be affordable, and it will continue to be the pull-factor," said Chian.
Fairview International School delivers the IB curriculum to children aged 4-19 years old, accross the PYP, MYP and Diploma programmes.
To date, it has four campuses — Subang, Wangsa Maju, Penang and Johor Baharu.
