KUALA LUMPUR (Apr 28): Gamuda Bhd is seeking leave to undertake a judicial review against the Selangor Water Management Board's (Lembaga Urus Air Selangor (LUAS) ) refusal to renew Syarikat Pengeluar Air Sungai Selangor Sdn Bhd's (SPLASH) raw water-abstraction licence beyond June 30, 2014.

In a statement to the exchange today, Gamuda said "its associate company, SPLASH, had on 24 April 2014 filed an application in the Kuala Lumpur High Court for leave to issue judicial review proceedings against the decision of LUAS as notified by LUAS to SPLASH via a letter dated 5 March 2014 to not renew SPLASH’s raw water-abstraction licence beyond 30 June 2014."

According to SPLASH's website, Gamuda owns 40% in the water concessionaire. The Sweet Water Alliance, and Selangor state investment arm Kumpulan Darul Ehsan Bhd hold 30% each in SPLASH.

The Selangor government had appointed SPLASH in January 2000 to build, operate and maintain the Sungai Selangor Water Supply Scheme Phase 3 (SSP3).

The 30-year SSP3 concession includes operation and maintenance of the Sungai Selangor Water Supply Scheme Phase 1. SPLASH also took over the operation and maintenance of the Sungai Tinggi Dam in January 2006.
