MRT project to drive construction sector: OSK
The Klang Valley Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) system will be a significant driver for the construction sector, says OSK Research Sdn Bhd.
It has maintained an "overweight" rating on the sector.
In a research note today, it said apart from Gamuda and MMC being the main beneficiaries of the KL MRT, KimLun Corp could potentially supply tunnel lining segments for the underground portion.
The final alignment of the 51-km Sungai Buloh-Kajang (SBK) line, of which 9.5 km will be underground, was unveiled last Friday.
OSK Research expects tenders for the elevated portion of the SBK line to be called from now up to September.
The elevated portion costing RM12 billion will be implemented over 20 packages and some 70 contractors have been pre-qualified for this portion.
The pre-qualification exercise for the tunneling works
has closed.
Apart from the Gamuda-MMC joint venture, OSK Research expects most of the competing bids to come from foreign contractors.
As for the remaining two lines, namely Circle Line and Line 3, it is understood that the independent consultants have completed their studies and submitted the proposed alignment to the government for approval.
