LONDON: European stock markets fell further and the euro steadied yesterday amid mounting debt concerns in the eurozone and the US, before key results of stress tests on Europe's embattled banking sector.

In morning deals, London's FTSE 100 index dipped 0.02 per cent to 5,846.41 points, Frankfurt's DAX 30 sank 0.31 per cent to 7,192.32 and in Paris the CAC 40 lost 0.32 per cent to 3,739.56.

Elsewhere, Madrid's stock market slipped 0.39 per cent and Milan shed 0.09 per cent in value.

At 1122 GMT the FTSEurofirst 300 index of top European shares was down 0.3 per cent at 1,086.11 points.

"European stock indices traded lower as investors awaited the outcome of the latest round of European banking stress tests," said City Index analyst Joshua Raymond.

The European Union was to publish the results of major stress tests on Europe's troubled banks later yesterday. - Agencies
