KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 11): Malaysia's industrial output, as measured by the industrial production index (IPI), rose 1.8% in November 2015 from a year earlier on higher manufacturing and electricity oputput.
In a statement today, the Statistics Department said manufacturing and electricity production climbed 4.1% and 2% respectively. Mining output, however, fell 4.1%.
"The mining sector output fell by 4.1% in November 2015 as compared to the same month in 2014 due to the decrease in natural gas index (8.7%) and crude oil index (0.3%)," the department said.
Cumulative IPI growth for the 11 months stood at 4.7% from a year earlier, helped by expansion in all three segments of the index.
Mining and manufacturing output rose 4.7% and 4.9% respectively while electricity production was 2.1% higher.
November IPI's on-year 1.8% growth compared with a 4.2% rise in October.
