Nikkei opens up on hopes for EU summit on debt crisis
TOKYO: The Nikkei stock average nudged higher after global stocks gained on strong earnings and on hopes a deal will be struck at an EU leaders' summit on the euro zone debt crisis, but ongoing concerns over the U.S. debt ceiling weighed on sentiment.
The benchmark Nikkei average opened up 0.1 percent at 10,019.94 on Thursday, while the broader Topix gained 0.2 percent to 862.07. – Reuters
