We need more planes, tweets Fernandes

AirAsia Bhd’s Chief Executive Officer Tony Fernandes said he will meet officials of Airbus SAS today to discuss matters related to aircraft orders.
“We need more planes per year and so will meet Airbus tomorrow,” Fernandes wrote on his personal Twitter page about 20 hours ago. “Will need to lease planes or buy more classic 320,” he wrote, referring to the Airbus A320 aircraft.
Asia’s biggest listed budget carrier may take up options for an additional 100 planes in addition to the 200 A320neo aircraft it ordered in June, Fernandes told Bloomberg Television on Aug. 10. It needs more aircraft following a planned tie-up with Malaysian Airline System Bhd via a share swap, said Fernandes, who is a director at both the companies.
The carriers have said they will collaborate in areas including plane purchases and opening new routes.
AirAsia ordered 200 A320neo single-aisle model, worth US$18 billion at list prices, at the Paris Air Show in June. The contract is the biggest in Airbus’ history by plane numbers. -- Bloomberg
