Enviro Mission Sdn Bhd has announced that it will begin construction of a Spent Bleaching Earth Solvent Extraction facility in Sandakan in January next year.

Enviro Mission, a subsidiary of renewable energy company, Mission NewEnergy
Ltd, said the RM30 million plant is expected to commence operations in September next year.

Spent bleaching earth is a waste by-product from palm oil refineries, has
historically no application and is traditionally disposed off in landfills.

Mission NewEnergy group chief executive officer Nathan Mahalingam said: "The new facility would be able to recover some 6,000 tonnes of residual palm oil from the spent bleaching earth per year, at a processing rate of up to 200
tonnes a day or 66,000 tonnes per year.

"Enviro Mission has secured agreements and understanding with refineries in
Sandakan and Lahad Datu, which will supply their spent bleaching earth to the
company.

"We have also confirmed guaranteed off-take for the salvaged palm
oil from a European buyer," he said in a statement today. -- Bernama
